Here is a wonderful Japanese cloisonne enamel bud vase finished with an unusual matte finish. The bud vase is worked with an elegant slender form and decorated with two flowers. One of the blossoms is outlined in wire, with the other blossom partially hidden under the semi-translucent enamel in a wonderful wireless (musen) technique. The well known artist, Yoshihisa Hattori, dipped the vase in a acid bath to create the wonderful soft, smooth matte finish. The vase is in excellent vintage condition without any major faults such as cracks, chips or hairlines or restoration.

Most artist workshops stayed away from white enamels for the background color as it revealed virtually any enamel inconsistency or fault. The bottom base is inset with the artist signature seal of Yorokobi, representing Yoshihisa Hattori. Most specialists generally agree that less than 7. % of Japanese cloisonne enameled works are marked or signed by the artist or workshop. This exact vase is illustrated on page 149 in Chapter 16, Yusen-jippo, standard wire cloisonne enamel, in Japanese Cloisonne Enamels; A Private Collectors Notes and Reference Guide, by Gary Yoshino.

Overall, a very peaceful and soothing design of flower blossoms finished in a rare matte finish. The height of this vase is approximately 7.5 inches. The width of this vase is approximately 2.8 inches near the base. Due to the fragile nature of cloisonné enamels, this item will be double boxed and packed with tremendous care.
