Here is an impressive Japanese cloisonne enamel vase with an unusually formed body and short neck. The vase appears to be decorated with a stylized pine cluster. The abstract design is worked in various shades of enamel, primarily blue, green, and white. There are several areas of wireless (musen) enamel which really help highlight the design elements.
This vase is finished in a high polish and is in pristine vintage condition without any major faults such as cracks, chips or hairlines or restoration. As many of you know, I originally acquired this vase many years ago as part of my fanatical efforts to obtain as many examples of unusual examples and techniques for my reference book on Japanese cloisonné. Specialists generally agree that less than 7. % of all Japanese cloisonne enamels are marked or signed by the artist workshops or retailer. This exact vase pictured on page 144 the reference book, "Japanese Cloisonne Enamels - A Private Collector's Notes and Reference Guide" by Gary Yoshino. Overall, a very interesting and exceptional quality cloisonné vase that is in excellent condition marked by the well respected retailer, Shobido. The height of this vase is approximately 7.0 inches. The width at the midpoint of the vase is approximately 6.5 inches. As Japanese cloisonné enamel is very fragile, we will double box and pack this item with tremendous care.
