Here is an unusual form Japanese cloisonne enamel vase with a monochrome green enamel ground. The background is worked with a solid, light green, primarily musen (wireless) ground, in excellent vintage condition without any cracks, crazing, hairlines or restoration. Over the years, just a few similar examples have appeared on the market. The vase is worked with a very simple design encircling the base and mouth of the vase. This design has been referred to as an "art deco" design by collectors and specialists, but the vase was most likely made after the second World War.
The height of this vase is approximately 7.25 inches. The width of the vase is approximately 2.75 inches. Overall, a very elegant and simple vase in excellent vintage condition signed by the Ando workshop, one of the most respected, innovative and influential cloisonne enamel firms still active since the Meiji Period (1868 - 1912).This exact piece is illustrated in Chapter 16, "Yusen-Jippo - Standard wire cloisonne enamel, " in "Japanese Cloisonne Enamels; A Private Collector's Notes and Reference Guide, " by Gary Yoshino, page 137.
