Stunning Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Vase with Flower and Bird Signed by Miwa

  
Here is a rare Japanese cloisonne enamel vase in the traditional technique (yusen shippo) design of a large flower blossom and a whimsical bird. This vase is signed by the elusive but incredibly talented artist, Miwa Tomisaburo. The highlight of the vase are the many sculpted wires used to depict the veins in the leaves. The vase is finished in a wonderful jet black enameled ground in high polish. A so-called specialist on Japanese cloisonne enamels, states, I consider the use of sculpted wires to be the highest achievement in cloisonne enamel, and I believe that it reflects an unequalled refinement.

Chapter 14, Wires - Sculptured and Twisted Cloison Wires, in the reference book Japanese Cloisonne Enamel; A Private Collectors Notes and Reference Guide, by Gary Yoshino, page 99. The height of this elegantly shaped vase is approximately 7.0 inches. The width of the vase is approximately 3.0 inches. Overall, an exceptional vase in excellent condition with a very beautiful flower blossom and fanciful bird. The only condition issues are a small abrasion along the interior of a leaf near the top of the vase and a tiny scuff the near the back of the bird.
