Here is a large and "robust" Japanese classic musen shippo (wireless) enamel cloisonné vase decorated with a band of rose blossoms. The vase is very understated and simple and worked in various shades of green enamels. The highlight of the vase are the rose blossoms and scrolling leaves that circle the mid-portion of the vase.
Notice that this vase's rose design is a much welcomed departure from the other musen vases that have the scrolling peony flower design! When they first appeared on the market about 15 years ago, they were very expensive, and I was so overjoyed to acquire several examples for a hefty price!
The background is finished in a high polish in dark green enamel and is in pristine vintage condition without any major faults such as cracks, chips or hairlines or restoration. The only cosmetic issue is that the top and bottom rims have a small ding on their edge which fortunately does not affect the enamel.
This exact vase is pictured on page 57, in Chapter 8, "Musen-Jippo, Without wire, wireless enamel and E-Gaki-Jippo painted enamel, " in Gary Yoshino's book entitled, Japanese Cloisonne Enamels; A Private Collector's Notes and Reference Guide. Overall, a very refined and high quality cloisonné vase that is marked by the Sato workshop.
The height of this vase is approximately 9.5 inches. The width of the vase is approximately 5.0 inches. As Japanese cloisonné enamel is very fragile, even this hefty vase, we will double box and pack this item with tremendous care. This item is in the category "Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Vases".
