Pair of antique fine Japanese cloisonne vases, featuring a chickadee, butterfly, dove amongst floral accents. Both unmarked and of an unknown, but old age. Each rimmed, top and bottom, with what appears to be a hammered brass or bronze ring. Each lined inside with a green lacquer of some kind. The white vase is bottomed with the same green lacquer substance, while the "pebbled" multi-color vase is bottomed with a teal, or very light blue lacquer.
As previously noted in the condition description, the multi-colored "pebbled" vase suffers two dings to its cloisonne surface, the first, at the base of the chickadee (which is a bit harder to see, especially from afar, but it is there - see photos), while the other ding is above the first, and to the left. It is slightly larger and more visible mainly due to the fact that a red lacquered undercoat (beneath the cloisonne) is rendered visible.
Meanwhile, the white dove vase suffers from two or three hairline cracks on the bottom lower backside, which fortunately appear to be contained there and show no inclination to spread. Other than these three issues, both vases are stunning and singularly beautiful. This item is in the category "Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Vases".
