Pair Antique Japanese Meiji Toro Bronze Cloisonne Temple Altar Lanterns Lamps. DESCRIPTION: This is a wonderful and rare pair of very fine Japanese Meiji-period table lamps. These lamps, originally Toro candle lanterns made for a Buddhist temple or altar, were coverted to electricity as table lamps sometimes in the 1920's judging by the original cord with bakelite plug and in-line switch.
Each lantern is finely crafted and detailed and made of patinated bronze. The lanterns both feature ornate cloisonne designs on the pagoda tops, with two bands of cloisonne on the base, and on the reticulated cage with original, delicate rice paper covering. The lanterns feature black wood bases. The pair will add exotic Orientalist style to any interior! CONDITION: The set presents well and is in good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age. Both lanterns have minor scuffing and losses to cloisonne enameling, along with tears/losses to rice paper interior covering. The wooden bases have some scuffing; one base has a chip along the top rim. Both lamps feature the original cords which are discolored and may need replacing; one in-line switch cover has a crack and should be replaced. Both lamps are in working condition however. Please review all photos before purchasing. DIMENSIONS: each 14" in height, 7" in diameter (widest part), 6-3/8" in diameter (bases); cord length 63" INVENTORY CODE: 2023/KP/F.
