The use of silver and gold wires as well as the white metal fittings suggest that the vase was produced without compromise. Though little is known of Ota Hyozo, his workshop has left behind some pieces of outstanding quality. He exhibited at the St Louis Universal Exposition of 1904, but had the misfortune of sharing a name with many other exceptional enamellists.
They therefore seem to exist as a collective, with history diffusing credit between the many Otas who worked during this fertile artistic period. The condition of the vase is very good, aside from a missing section of enamel to the turquoise shield. Size: 24.2 x 7.5cm (9½ x 3) Weight: 272g. Have a look at our other items.
