Meiji Period Japanese Partial Ginbari Cloisonne Pair Vases w/ Three Toed Dragons. A tremendous antique matched pair Meiji vases each with elongated baluster shaped body and short funnel neck.

One swirling, confronting dragon per vase with red flaming scrolls. A little deeper blue ginbari enamel without a flash. Body is high gloss, almost mirror like finish. In direct light maybe, but they are very dark nonetheless. True pair, opposing designs, but not identical in detail. Three clawed dragons are typically Japanese works of art from my experience.

If you check a Chinese vase, I would expect to see five claws (toes) on a Chinese dragon. These vases exhibit very high standard of fine Japanese hand craftsmanship for Meiji pieces.

Pitting generally common to older pieces is very, very minor on these vases attesting to the skill of the artisans of the Meiji period. These vases are not signed, but clearly the work of a master of Japanese cloisonne. These antique vases are in excellent original condition.

No damages, repairs, cracks or dents. Some normal wear to base, nice patina to top. Again, pitting is very minor.
