Listed is a Japanese cloisonne vase of very high quality by one of the Meiji Masters: Gonda Hirosuke. The vase was made with two kinds of techniques: the flowers around the neck were done in Yusen (wired) style, which is the standard technique; and the three gold fish were done in Ginbari (silver foil) style, with silver foils laid underglaze and transparent enamel on top of them. By Ginbari technique, the gold fish seems brilliantly vivid as if they were swimming in the water underneath the flowers. The vase was marked at the bottom and was evidently made by the great master Gonda Hirosuke.

Gonda gained reputation and fame as a cloisonne craftsman for his diversified and innovative works. His works were ordered by the Japanese Imperial Household as gifts or presentations. Generally good condition, with a few hairlines across the body (refer to the pictures). Height: 31cm; Width: 17cm max. Posted from Hong Kong by EMS.
