JAPANESE CLOISONNE GINGER JAR c1885 TREE BARK This is a very fine and rare, c1885 Japanese cloisonne ginger jar, retaining both its outer and inner covers. The ginger jar done in the cloisonne technique called Totai Shippo, which means cloisonne on, in this case, porcelain.

Further rendered in tree bark form, in reference to the autumnal colors, bark like surface. The technique developed in the 1860s and was only briefly popular, for perhaps a decade or two. The ginger jar is 8 1/2 inches tall. Retains both outer and interior lids.
