Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Vase Raised Panel Signed by Ando PIB

  
The vase is unusual as the Ando artist applied a metal panel with a floral design on the body of the vase and applied a beautiful translucent green enamel highlight. The raised floral design is bordered within an oval scroll design.

Other examples of this design have been seen over the years, however, in many examples, the translucent enamel highlights is damaged as the raised design becomes very susceptible to damage. In this example, the vast majority is intact which is very rare. This exact piece is illustrated on page 33, in Chapter 6, entitled, "Imbedded Cloisonne Enamel" which explores various examples that incorporate design elements that has been added on top of the foundation.
