DSC Fine and Decorative Art. Hayashi Kodenji School Japanese Cloisonné Melon Vases Pigeon. Like the works of Hayashi Kodenji and the Nagoya School he was a part of, the vases are decorated with impossibly dense foliage on a cobalt blue background. There are five pigeons on each vase, some are in flight, others are foraging in the undergrowth. Though the bulk of the pattern is set out in silver wires, there are areas where the enamellist has concealed the wires or dispensed with them altogether.
The pigeons demonstrate this best, with wireless sections of feathering. The feet are also impressive, dappling the orange enamel with white flecks. The condition of the vases is good, one is without wear, but the other has a bruise to one of its lobes. Size: 154 x 73mm (6" x 3") Weight: 532g. Have a look at our other items.
