This is a very rare and most beautiful vase by Gonda Hirosuke which displays 4 Koi in the most amazing detail. Most pleasing is the alternate use of Ginbari, foil with some fish displaying red and white accents, and a reversal of form with one displaying mainly white and red Ginbari. Surrounding this unusually shaped vase is wired cloisonne from the midrift of the elongated ovoid baluster shape to the unusually shaped neck. The wired area shows vines and flowers in great detail. My words alone can not describe the complexity of such a piece.
Rarely will you find a vase of this shape as the narrowing towards the base made multiple firings an extremely risky proposition, due to the high probability of pooling. This would have to be one of Gonda Hirosukes most underrated pieces, especially so with the green ground. It measures 25cm in height and 8 cm at its widest. This is an appreciating asset, with no visible damage, bar the odd pit in the tiniest cloison.
