Here is a wonderful pair of Japanese akasuke (translucent, dark enamel) cloisonné vase decorated with one rose blossom with a profusion of cherry (sakura) blossoms above, marked by the Sato workshop. The background is worked with an finely incised ground known as nanako or fish roe with a bird in flight amongst bamboo stalks incised into the ground. The two vases are in pristine vintage condition without any major chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration.
The only notable item is on the bottom of one vase, there is two small indentations to the metal rim, but there are no impact to the enamel. This workshop designation appears to be earlier variation for these akasuke vases. The height of these medium sized vases are approximately 6.0 inches. The width of these medium sized vases are approximately 3.25 inches. The item "Fine PAIR of Japanese Translucent Cloisonne Vases by the Sato Workshop" is in sale since Thursday, January 7, 2021.
