Hello Japanese cloisonne enamel collectors! Here is a rare and wonderful work for advanced collectors or institutional collections. A well-respected and long-time collector told me that there was very little left in the field of Japanese cloisonne enamels that has not been discovered or researched thoroughly.

Well, this item may be a work that has not been researched adequately as very few examples exist. This is an extremely rare Japanese cloisonne enamel Christian cross. All stated that had NOT previously handled sufficient works to determine how old the cross is. This is one of several pieces that I have discussed with a very close friend and collector regarding pieces that needed research and documentation. Friend recently passed away and we had many wonderful discussions regarding the need to take detailed (close-up) images of both signed and unsigned works to help in the attribution and research process.

We wanted to kick-off our research project with examples like this that proved to very difficult to document. In his honor of my dear colleague and friend, I will donate the entire sale proceeds (100%) to the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA), a non-profit charter school that focuses on academic and artistic excellence. There are just a handful of similar examples in museums or in private collections where we are currently unable to contact their owners. Overall, a very interesting and exceptional quality cloisonné enamel cross in fine antique collection without any chips, cracks, crazing or other condition issues.

This Christian cross was well taken care of over the years. The length or height is approximately 8.0 inches.

The width is approximately 5.0 inches. The thickness is approximately 2/16 inches.

We will double box and pack this item with tremendous care. Please ask any and all questions. This item is in the category "Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Vases". The seller is "gyassociates" and is located in this country: US.
