There is a saying that goes something like this: Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. This vintage vase is in excellent vintage condition, so I hope a fellow collector will be able to properly document its history. The technique of this vase is known as the Raised Foreground Technique. The artist applies the wires that form the design ON TOP of the enameled foundation! The floral design which is outlined in the ribbon-like wire becomes higher than the level of the background enameled surface. The amazing result is that the blossoms and leaves literally jump from the background. The Raised Foreground technique vase is in excellent vintage condition. The only condition issue are two very small enamel crazing to the base of vase. These two areas are very small but they can be seen in the image of rim of the base (refer to the last image). The enameled ground transitions from a beautiful light green translucent enamel ground near the base and transitions to a light lemon-yellow enamel shade near the shoulder and neck of the vase.

The foundation is lightly etched with a series of horizontal lines as commonly observed on some translucent red enamel (commonly refer to as "akasuke") vases. As you can imagine, the Raised Foreground technique that exposes the designs border walls is extremely fragile and susceptible to damage. This explains the very small number of examples that has survived over the years. The height of this vase is approximately 6.0 inches. The width of the vase near the shoulder is approximately 3.25 inches.

Overall, a clean, vibrant and finely executed piece in the Raised Foreground technique. As cloisonné enamel is very fragile, we will double box and pack this item with extreme care.
