Antique Totai Shippo 13.5 Artist Signed Japanese Vase Cloisonne on Porcelain
We offer an antique nineteenth century Meiji era Totai Shippo Japanese cloisonné on porcelain vase decorated with two cartouches of flowers, foliage and butterflies on a maroon ground. The body of the vase is a blue ground with matching borders at the upper edge and lower base. A cobalt floral band graces the shoulder of the vase. The interior of the widely flared mouth is decorated under the glaze with a delicate border of flowers and trimmed in green on the exterior. The porcelain cloisonné vase is artist signed in red on the base. The vase weighs 3 pounds 11.2 ounces and measures 6" in width at the shoulder, 4 3/4" in diameter at the top, 4 3/4" in diameter at the base and 13 1/2" in height. At one time there was extensive breakage at the upper flared mouth of the vase. As seen in the photographs, there are old restorations which alludes to the importance a previous owner imparted to the vase. The vase is in gently used antique condition.
