Antique Japanese Tree Bark Cloisonne Lamp. Vase 12x9 lamp 26 Porceoain/Enamel
"Totai Shippo" refers to cloisonne enamel applied to parts of a porcelain piece. Tree bark cloisonne is where the porcelain piece is made to look like tree bark. This one has the typical dark tree bark vase, to which cloisonne enamel in the shapes of flowers, birds, etc is applied. It was made into a lamp at some time, and rewired probably in the 50s, in that this lamp has a harp, not a telescoping tube to adjust for different shades. Lamps are ideal for displaying tree bark cloisonne because the pieces are typically dark and subtle, and they show best under light. You are likely to want a new shade anyway to complement the room in which it will sit. Neta and I were big fans of tree bark cloisonne. She carried as much as she could find when she had the antiques store, and we had several at home. This is the last and best of the tree bark pieces. It is a very impressive size, about 9" in diameter, and about 13" from the ground to the top of the vase, and about 26 to where the shade will sit. Of course, the height is adjustable by using larger and smaller harps, and extenders, such as the two on top of the harp here.
