Antique Japanese Plique A Jour Vase Meiji Showa Cloisonné. My German mothers family lived in Tokyo from 1923 to 1948.
Her mother and stepfather began collecting plique a jour while they were in Japan. Their collection came to me and I have since added a few additional pieces to their collection. Plique-à-jour is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. T his is a stunning multi-colored floral plique a jour vase.
5 tall and 3 across its widest point. Silver metal on top rim and base. Vivid roses and other bright flowers on a pale green background. Looks like gorgeous stained glass.
I see no cracks or scratches. Package should be no larger than 8/8/8 and weigh no more than 2lbs.
