FEATURING A VERY FINE ANTIQUE MEIJI ERA JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL SILVER WIRE VASE WITH 2 SPIDER MUMS, ONE VERY LARGE WITH MANY PETALS, TIED TO A BAMBOO POLE WITH PINK RIBBON. SMALLER MUMS AND GREEN LEAVES BELOW THE SPIDER MUMS. THE LARGEST WHITE SPIDER MUM WITH DOZENS OF PETALS IS TOUCHED WITH A SUBTLE PALE GREEN AND THE YELLOW STAMENS ARE WELL DEFINED. ON THE REVERSE IS A LOVELY PALE PINK BUTTERFLY IN FINE DETAIL AS IS THE ENTIRE PIECE. ALL ON A LOVELY SHADE OF GRAY-BLUE.
THE TRUEST BLUE BACKGROUND COLOR IS THE SECOND PHOTO. THE COLOR IN THE LAST PHOTO IS NOT GOOD, BUT IT SHOWS THE FINE WORKMANSHIP OF THE RIBBON TYING UP THE FLOWER. THE SUBJECT MATTER AND SHAPE OF THIS VASE, WITH THE SPIDER MUMS AND BUTTERFLY, IS REMINISCENT OF EARLY CLOISONNE VASES/PIECES BY NAMIKAWA SOSUKE OR SHIPPO KAISHA WITH HIS/THEIR DESIGNS/STYLE. DIMENSIONS: 5" TALL AND APPROXIMATELY 3" IN DIAMETER AT THE WIDEST POINT. VERY PLEASING, GRACEFUL SHAPE WITH VERY SMALL NECK/MOUTH OPENING. THE VASE WIDENS OUT TOWARDS THE MIDDLE AND BASE AND THEN COMES IN AT THE FOOT. THE SMALL NECK AND MOUTH SHAPE IS FOUND MORE OFTEN IN EARLIER PIECES THAN IN LATTER PIECES THAT MAY HAVE WIDER MOUTH OPENINGS/NECKS. NO DAMAGES, DINGS, CRACKS OR RESTORATIONS. I DID NOTICE ONE TINY SCRATCH ON REVERSE ONLY SEEN UNDER HIGH MAGNIFICATION. THIS VASE IS HEAVY FOR ITS SIZE. THE HIGH QUALITY ENAMEL IN THE BLUE BACKGROUND SURFACE IS UNUSUAL IN THAT IT IS HIGHLY POLISHED AND VERY LITTLE PITTING IS SEEN. THIS VASE WOULD GRACE THE BEST COLLECTION AND IS VERY, VERY NICE. FRESH FROM FINE LOCAL ESTATE OF OLD ROCHESTER FAMILY. I GUARANTEE SATISFACTION AND ITEM IS AS DESCRIBED. This item is in the category "Antiques\Asian Antiques\Japan\Vases".
