This champleve jar/vase came from the estate of a local antiques dealer. She had been in the business for many years and knew her business. The jar is made of bronze with deep carving which consists of colorful flowers and may be a signature.
The vase is marked on the bottom with "Made in Japan", indicating it was made after the McKinley act of 1890. The detail on this piece is very good, with the recessed spaces all carved in an intricate pattern. The handles are stylized griffin heads. The jar is in good condition with as only flaw that the artist at times has carved too deep, making small holes in the under layer of the vase. Measurements are: 6" diameter, 8 ½" tall.
