A beautiful antique square cloisonné vase decorated with birds surrounded by flowering plants on a dark blue ground. Different kind of cloisonné techniques.
Yusen (with wire) shows its design by means of gold and silver wire. Musen (without wire) by enamel alone, moriage raised above the surface, with realistic fruit, leaf or blossom slightly raised, and Yohen Ryuyu is distinguished by its special coloring. Tow-Mei is generally done with silver as a background (known as "cloisonné on silver"). Shotai Shippo (plique a jour) is like glass with the figures showing trough, and is knows as transparent cloisonné. The Crimson enamel is highly prized, as also that known as "Tow-Mei-Gitai".
The height is approx 5.9 inch (15 cm). Little signs of age but in my opinion not disturbing, see photos. Private Collection (Paris / France). We never end auctions early, please do not ask, thank you. Netherlands : 1 week Europe : 2 weeks Outside Europe : 4 - 6 weeks (sometimes Earlier).
