Throughout the Ando workshops history, this prestigious and highly respected workshop has made large and impressive vases. This is such an example with a striking and bold design. The vase is worked with what appears as Lilly of the Valley, or.

A quick on-line search showed several variations of colored blossoms. The Ando workshop artist worked the majority of the vase with various shades of blue and dark blue enamel. The striking contrast between the white and light blue blossoms resulted in the blossoms becoming the focal point of the work. The background is finished in a high polish, light blue to dark blue enamel in excellent condition without any major faults such as cracks, crazing, hairlines or restoration with the exception of three small surface abrasions. These three abrasions are located towards the back of the vase and very hard to see unless carefully inspected under a strong light source. I could not capture them adequately in a photograph. The first abrasion is about the size of half of a grain of rice or lead pencil tip. The second abrasion is directly underneath the first, is also about the size of a grain of rice. These first two issues are best described as surface scrapes. Most dealers would not even mention them as most all cloisonné enamel works have tiny scratches or scrapes on their surfaces from normal use and wear. The third abrasion, also directly below the other two, is relatively deep, but is very small. If you are an advanced collector who seeks perfection, this vase might not meet your requirements, but if you are a collector who understands that artistic design, style and technique prevail, then this vase might be perfect for you.

Once again, the first two are light surface scrapes and the third abrasion is very small and very hard to see. The interior of the vase is finished in a glossy, jet black enamel. These large vases do occasionally come on the market and the prices are consistently priced at a premium. The height of this vase approximately 11.0 inches.

The width at the top of this vase is approximately 6.75 inches. Due to the fragile nature of cloisonné enamels, this box will be double boxed and packed with tremendous care.
