Stunning! Japanese Vintage Cloisonné Box Spring Orchid by Ando Shippo 255
This is an absolutely sunning cloisonné box made by famous Ando Shippo in Japan in Showa era (1926 - 1989). It would be great to put valuable items in it, e. AA and AAA batteries are put inside the box, so that you can know the size of the box. The theme or design is "Spring Orchid", which naturally bloom in spring in mountainous area in Japan. First, the brass body (substrate) is covered by the Japanese traditional technique (Gin-Nagashi), so that it keeps silver color without change for long period. Then, "Spring Orchid" is depicted on it by cloisonné enamel. The inside is covered with woven silk cloth. It is in excellent condition.
No chips, cracks or dings at all. White (or shining) spots in pictures are reflection of light, i.
The cloth inside the box is clean. It is made of paulownia wood, which is best to keep valuable artifacts in safe for long period. The script on the right hand side of the box means "Cloisonné box with Spring Orchid". The left side means "Made by Ando Shippo".
