Here is a beautiful Japanese classic mixed musen shippo (wireless) and yusen (standard wire) enamel cloisonné vase of a large group of cranes. Over the last 30+ years, I have seen variations of this vase in solid blue and green enameled ground in the same form and size, but the pink enameled ground is definitely the rarest. The vase is in mint condition without any major faults such as cracks, chips, hairlines of restoration.

The highlight of the vase is how the artist confidently utilized a light colored enamel ground with minimal use of wires to highlight the crane's eyes and beaks to create a naturalistic depiction. The height of this minature vase is approximately 3.5 inches.

The width of the miniature vase is approximately 3.0 inches. Overall, a very attractive vase in pristine condition with a bright and cheerful design. This exact piece is illustrated in Chapter 16, Yusen-Jippo; Standard wire cloisonne enamel, inJapanese Cloisonne Enamels; A Private Collectors Notes and Reference Guide, by Gary Yoshino, page 158.

PIB - P ictured I n B ook. Not surprisingly, I paid a significantly higher amount than the listed amount as I absolutely had to have a great example of this desirable subject matter and minimal use ofwire for inclusion and discussion in my reference book. This vase will be double boxed and packed with tremendous care.
