HERES AN ORIGINAL JAPANESE LATE MEIJI ERA BRONZE AND CHAMPLEVE ENAMEL CENSER / INCENSE BURNER WITH A SCULPTURAL DRAGON FINIAL! Measuring approximately five and one half inches (5 1/5) in height to the top of the dragon handle by five inches (5) in width from handle to handle, this original Meiji era Japanese bronze and champlevé enamel censer / incense burner displays a spherical body that sits on three short legs and has a panoramic enameled panel comprised of stylized birds and other designs.

The separate domed bronze lid displays a scrolling cloud-like design with a sculptural dragon as the lids handle. Condition: Generally excellent and clean condition with some original small pock-marks to the enameling (not bad and all original to the firing process). Please know this censer has not been cleaned in any way and therefore still has some minor age-related grime. In addition, this censer has been used for its intended purpose and consequently has black soot on the interior. But overall, still a very nice example of late Meiji era Japanese champlevé enameling! LASTLY, SHOULD THE WORD "EAMES" BE USED IN THE SEARCH TITLE, IT IS THERE FOR THE PURPOSE OF REFERENCING THE MID-CENTURY TIME PERIOD OF THE 1940S THROUGH THE 1970S. 14 THIS ITEM IS BEING OFFERED BY DESIGN REFERENCES -- ESTABLISHED BY A FORMER ART MUSEUM CURATOR TURNED BOOKSELLER SPECIALIZING in OUT-OF-PRINT and PERIOD MATERIALS on the PROGRESSIVE IDEAS of MODERNISM and POST-MODERNISM in DECORATIVE ARTS and ARCHITECTURE, INDUSTRIAL and STUDIO ARTS of the 19TH & 20TH CENTURIES. 15 PLEASE -- NO REQUESTS FOR PHOTOCOPIES OF THIS ITEM. I DO NOT MAKE PHOTOCOPIES UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. 16 AGAIN, COMMUNICATION IS KEY! 17 LASTLY -- WHEN OBSTACLES AND PROBLEMS LOOM LARGE AND YOU SEEM TO BE AT A STAND STILL, REMEMBER THAT EVEN A FALTERING STEP FORWARD IS BETTER THAN NO STEP AT ALL.
