Fine 12 Inch Meiji Black Glass Japanese Cloisonne Silver-Wire Enameled Vase. 1900 - Art Nouveau - Antique. Large delicate and very fine quality antique Japanese Cloisonne Vase. He baluster-shaped body rises to a flaring neck and rim, each fitted with bronze/brass trim. Finely-worked silver wire and enamels set the stage against a black ground, highlighting a gray dove perched on the branch of a flowering apricot tree. The tree branches flow around the sides of the vase amidst spays of white, orange and purple flowers with green foliage. Borders at the base and rim have delicate circular patterns inspired by Japanese textiles.

SIZE - 12 30.5 cm. Height by 5 7.2/10 cm. Overall Antique Condition is Excellent, except for a small vertical 1 hairline near the base that looks like a scratch.

I found it with a magnifying glass (See red arrow). The base plate was drilled as a lamp. Note: Take a look at the newspaper clippings I found crumpled up in a little ball inside this vase. The paper was fragile, and it fell apart as I fished it out with my grabber bit by bit. I soaked the pieces, used an iron on each little section and pieced the puzzle together. This was a newspaper story dated August 18, 1920, discussing the struggle for the Ratification of the 19th Amendment Women's Right to Vote. This vase probably belonged to a suffragette who stuffed the story inside for posterity. Now, 100 years later, the 100th anniversary of the Ratification of the 19th Amendment, I pulled the notice out of this vase.
